Bergamot & Ivy Care Instructions for Planting
Bulbs
Step-by-Step
Instructions:
1)
Choose a pot that will accommodate several bulbs comfortably.
Place some pot shards or clay granules on the bottom to provide
better drainage.
2)
Partially fill the pot with soil and depress this down slightly.
Then press the bulbs lightly into the soil. They may be allowed
to almost touch one another. With tulips, arrange them so
that the flat sides of their bulbs face the wall of the pot.
3)
Continue to fill the post with soil so that the noses of the
bulbs disappear under the soil surface. Sprinkle generously
with water to encourage rooting.
4)
Provide the planted flower bulbs with the required cold period.
As soon as the flower bud has emerged fro the bulb, the pots
can be place in a warm location.
Four
Important Points:
1)
Bulbous plants can usually remain planted in their little
round or square containers when transferring them into other
prettier containers, baskets or pots. A layer of soil, moss
wood chips or gravel conceals the plastic. If the container
does not fit into the pot, the bulbs can also be carefully
removed from their original pot. Usually, the sandy contents
allow easy removal of the bulb by holding the pot upside-down
and tapping the bottom.
2)
Bulbous plants need water frequently, but not in large amounts.
3)
Once the flower emerges, water now and again with a plant
sprayer to keep the flowers from drying out.
4)
Always use an uneven number of bulbs in a bowl or container
since this produces a prettier effect. Always use flower bulbs
of a single kind and a single color in one pot. This is the
only way to have all colors shown off to perfection when you
place several pots side by side.
